Mugshots

As chamadas "mugshots" — retratos de identificação criminal — sempre me fascinaram como documentos brutos da existência. Nelas, não há pose ou artifício: apenas o rosto humano em seu estado mais vulnerável, flagrado num instante de suspensão entre o que se foi e o que está por vir.
Esta série parte dessas imagens de arquivo para criar novos retratos, utilizando técnicas variadas — do digital ao tradicional. Mais do que registrar rostos, busco habitar o intervalo entre o documento e a imaginação: quem eram essas pessoas antes daquele instante? São exercícios de empatia visual, onde a superfície do rosto se torna porta de entrada para histórias silenciosas.

Mugshots — criminal identification photographs — have always fascinated me as raw documents of existence. In them, there is no pose or artifice: only the human face in its most vulnerable state, captured in a suspended moment between what was and what is yet to come.
This series departs from these archival images to create new portraits, using various techniques — from digital to traditional. More than recording faces, I seek to inhabit the space between document and imagination: who were these people before that moment? These are exercises in visual empathy, where the face's surface becomes a doorway to silent stories.
